In the article the last period of Special Holdings Department of Lviv Stefanyk Scientific Library of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR is regarded. The features of its work in conditions of publicity policy and democratic changes in the country are shown. The examples of the return of the rehabilitated publications and archival documents for general use are presented. The issues of reorganization of units in the Sector of Rare Editions of the late XIX–ХХ centuryin the Library Department of Rare Books are touched. The causes and problems of dissolution of the Sector are lightened.
