In the article, on the materials of the correspondence of the famous public figure, politician and scholar Olexander Barvinskyi kept in Barvinskyi family archive collection at the Department of Manuscripts of the Vasyl Stefanyk National Academic Library of Lviv there is traced the history of foundation and activity of the Ukrainian schools, teachers' situation, their organizations and fellowships, as well as their periodicals. The letters of O. Partytskyi, R. Zaklynskyi, I. Yushchyshyn and many other public teachers concern the history of the foundation of the teachers organizations «Ukrayins’ke Pedahohichne Tovarystvo» and «Vzayimna Pomich Ukrayins’koho Vchytel’stva Halychyny». The letters of H. Tsehlynskyi, A. Alyskevych, K. Chekhovych, the bishop of Peremyshl’, and the others concern the history of foundation and activity of the Ukrainian gymnasia and teachers seminaries.
