The article deals with the main trends of Ukrainian and foreign ethnomusicology of the second half of the XX century, connected with recordings of folk music and its publishing in the scientific and popular publications, the emergence of new theoretical and methodological principles of ethnomusicology, the formation of the national song catalogs, comparative study within a national culture and access to the interstate, interethnic relations.
