The article deals with the issue of primary sources of creative work of Eastern Galizia artists of the first half of the 19th century who devoted a lot of time to rough drawings of the characteristic costume. Their study of the Baltazar Behem’s Code, one of the most famous historical and cultural records of the 16th century, is considered. Usage of its miniature paintings and analytical approach to analysis of the very details with the aim to expose wealth of material culture of the people from the earliest times are highlighted.
