History of the Journal

The annual scholarly publication “Proceedings of Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv ” has been published since 1992. (Until 2007, the publication was titled “Proceedings of Lviv Stefanyk  Scientific Library» ; the name was updated following the Library’s designation as a national institution.) As of 2025, 33 issues have been released.

The annual features several permanent sections, including Library Science, Book Science, Periodical Studies, and the History of Publishing, Archival Studies, Art History, Theater and Musicology, and Miscellanea. Since its inception, the collection has covered a broad spectrum of research from both internal staff and international scholars. Key focus areas include documentation science, archival studies, archaeography, the history of science and culture, digital transformation in libraries, and specialized historical disciplines such as phaleristics, bonistics, and sphragistics.

  • Prof. Larysa Krushelnytska, Dr. Hab. in History, 1992–2002;
  • Prof. Myroslav Romanyuk, Dr. Hab. in History, Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine, 2003-2023;
  • Prof. Lidia Snitsarchuk, Dr. Hab. in Social Communications, since 2024.

From 1999 to 2020, the annual was recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine as a peer-reviewed professional publication for the defense of doctoral and candidate dissertations in both Historical Sciences and Social Communications.
